A Big “Thank You!”

Challenge Day was a wonderful week of sharing for over 400 7th grade students and over 100 adult volunteers!  We hope that the students are working on their challenge to “Be the Change” and that they feel empowered to make ECMS the school of their dreams. Thank you to Sean & NeEddra from Challenge Day for leading us.  Thank you to the facilitators who gave a day to lead their small groups, to the door monitors, and to the lunch help including the Wheeler Special Education class for assembling our lunch bags.  A special thank you to the teachers, counselors, and administrators who helped make Challenge Day possible.  Thank you to all the foundation board members who raised the funds and helped to make Challenge Day a reality for the sixth year at ECMS!

The ECMS Foundation wishes to thank all the individuals and families who donated to Challenge Day.  We especially want to thank our sponsors Chickfila (Eastlake), Kroger (Eastlake), Wild Wing, Georgia Rib Company, Silpada (Camille Boyd representative), Crystal Springs, Eastside Baptist Church, Walmart (Johnson Ferry location), Fast Signs (Sandy Springs), Southern Apparel Images, and West Paces Design.

If you are interested in serving on a committee to plan Challenge Day for next year, please contact Gretchen Buchanan at  gretchenbuchanan@mindspring.com or 770-509-9294.

Let us know what you thought about Challenge Day this year!  Answer our survey which is open to students, staff, and volunteers.  Link to the anonymous survey at http://www.surveygizmo.com/s3/1152521/ECMS-Challenge-Day-Survey-2013.  Survey results help us with fundraising for next year.

Be the Change,
Gretchen Buchanan
2013 Challenge Day Chair

Challenge Day 2013  – Jan. 28 through 31 — marked the sixth year that East Cobb Middle School has given the gift of Challenge Day to its 7th-DSC_4501grade students.

Since 2008, 3,000 people — 2,400 students and 600 adult volunteers — have been changed by the experience of Challenge Day at ECMS. Each of those six years, about 400 students and 100 adults experienced first-hand how taking the risk to connect with others breaks down the barriers among people of different backgrounds. Students learned how to connect with classmates outside their comfort zone.  And theypledged to do their part to make ECMS a place where every child feels safe, loved and celebrated.

The East Cobb Middle School Foundation raises funds from the community for resources the county, state and federal government do not provide. Our board volunteers work closely with the school’s administration, teachers and PTSA.

This is a critical time for the school to continue building on the momentum of recent years in the face of budget cuts and other challenges.

Use these pages to learn more about our work, including Challenge Day, and how you can help.
